Innovator Award

The Innovator Award recognizes HIVMA members in early or mid-career who have made outstanding and original contributions to HIV medicine in clinical care, provider education, research, or advocacy.  

Nominees must be early to mid-career and be either:

• 45 years of age or younger 

OR

• Achieved no higher than associate professor 

The award will be based on innovation and originality in advancing independent research and productivity, HIV clinical care, provider education or advocacy.

Transformative Leader Award

The Transformative Leader Award recognizes HIVMA members who have transformed the field with demonstrated significant achievement in HIV clinical care, provider education, research or advocacy. Significant achievement will be based on overall achievement and contributions that transcend a single institution and that have impacted patient care within a city, region, state or nationally.

Adaora Adimora Citation Award* 

The Adaora Adimora Citation Award honors the late Adaora Adimora, MD, MPH, FIDSA. Dr. Adimora was a past chair of HIVMA and member of the IDSA Board of Directors who had an unwavering commitment to advancing health equity and improving HIV prevention and care for disenfranchised populations through research, education and advocacy. 

In her honor - the award honors Dr. Adimora’s compassion, leadership and service to HIVMA and the field by recognizing exemplary contributions to advancing efforts to end the HIV epidemic, such as through their work, which may include social justice, public service or in service with HIVMA. Non-members who have made extraordinary contributions to ending the HIV epidemic may be considered for this award.

Eligibility and Award Criteria

1. Award nominees, primary nominators, and at least one secondary nominator must be active members of HIVMA or IDSA in good standing with the exception of the Citation Award*. 
2. Members currently serving on the IDSA or HIVMA Boards of Directors or the IDSA Society or HIVMA Awards Committees are not eligible to be nominated.
3. Individuals who have previously won a particular award are not eligible to win that award again. They may, however, be nominated in a different award category or for an IDSA Award. 
4. Self-nominations are not permitted.

*Non-members who have made extraordinary acts may be considered for the Citation Award.

Award Criteria:

Significant achievement will be based on overall achievement and contributions that transcend a single institution and that have impacted patient care within a city, region, state or nationally.

Nominees for the Adaora Adimora Citation Award will be evaluated based on exemplary contributions or service to HIVMA and/or in advancing efforts to end HIV as an epidemic, such as through social justice and public service. In special circumstances, it may be awarded to recognize extraordinary acts by individuals who are not HIVMA members.

To submit a nomination:

Complete the nomination form on page 3.

Have nominee’s CV ready to upload. It is optional to upload a biosketch in addition to their CV.

Be prepared to submit a statement of support from a seconding nominator. Award nominations require a statement of support from at least one, but no more than two, Secondary Nominators. At least one seconding nominator must be an active member of HIVMA or IDSA. All secondary nominations must be entered on page 4.

Save and resume. If you choose to save your nomination form to submit later, you can return to the form at any time by using the same application link. Once the form opens, you can select "Resume a previously saved form" in the top right corner under the progress bar.
